Certain apps, including YouTube, even support a handy picture-in-picture mode. While playing videos or navigating your screen, the app will display in a floating window that you can move around when you exit the app.
Your iPad offers two different multitasking modes: Slide Over and Split View. Slide Over lets you view two apps on the screen with one app in a narrow pane floating on top of the other. Split View allows you to display two apps on the screen in their own resizable panes. You can then add a third app, which resides in the floating pane.
Your two current apps remain in Split View, while the third app resides in Slide Over mode. The new floating app will appear on the left or right after you drag it to the center. If you drag it to one side of the screen, it will replace the app on that side.
This includes the ability to run apps in a floating window, which Samsung calls Pop-Up view. There are quite a few advantages of running apps in a floating windowed mode, especially if you frequently use many apps at once.
The floating window app can run on top of other apps that you are already using. This way, you can have an Excel spreadsheet open while having an email or another document you refer to in the pop-up window.
flippr puts your widgets inside its floating bubble so you can quickly check and interact with your favorite apps without opening them and without leaving the current app on your screen. You can assign various widgets to one bubble button, and scroll horizontally between them after you click it.
When the Galaxy Note 4 was released earlier this year, it improved on the Multi Window feature by allowing users to create floating windows for applications simply by tapping on the icons in the Multi Window tray. So rather than just two apps in a split-screen mode, you could now have multiple apps in their own resizable windows.
For starters, there are two ways to use the floating window on OxygenOS 11/ Oxygen OS 10. You can either enable Freeform windows in developer options to use day-to-day apps in draggable mini-windows or use selective apps in a floating window while in the gaming mode. Both are detailed below.
